Philippe Coutinho is with Barcelona, confirms Ernesto Valverde

Philippe Coutinho is all set to remain at Barcelona this season. This comes after the club admitted that a move away from Camp Nou for the Brazilian will not be possible in this transfer window. The player has so far underperformed in Barca colours and the club was actively looking to sell him.

With the English transfer window being closed on August 8, the La Liga giants have come to the conclusion that it is in the club’s best interests to let the player stay at Camp Nou. The Brazilian international joined Barcelona in from Liverpool in 2018 for a huge amount of money. So far, the former Liverpool playmaker has not been able to justify his performances with his price tag, which led to the rumours of an exit.

The player attracted interest from Arsenal and Tottenham, but the deals could not be concluded within time. The Blaugrana tried their best to complete a deal through various different means, but neither of the clubs could reach an agreement. The La Liga champions are aware of the 27-year-old’s below-par performances. Along with that, he is also among the highest earners at the club, so it made economic sense to let him go.

That would relieve the club of his exorbitant salary, and provide Barca with enough funds so that they could force a move for Neymar. However, the French club is not negotiating and any move for Coutinho does not look possible. Coach Ernesto Valverde has said “We don't know what's going to happen, but Coutinho is with Barcelona.”
