With his job in danger after a humbling loss to Norwich City, Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce went to former manager Sir Alex Ferguson for advice on how to beat Tottenham. The former Crystal Palace boss replaced Rafael Benitez at St James’ Park but is yet to find his stride with the Magpies.

Replacing Rafael Benitez as the Newcastle United manager was always going to be a tough task, but Steve Bruce’s fixture list for the 2019/20 season certainly hasn’t made things any easier. The former Sheffield United boss faced Arsenal, Norwich City and then Tottenham in his opening three fixtures and walked into White Hart Lane on the back of two losses.

Under immense pressure and wondering if he had any job security, the Athletic have reported that Bruce called Sir Alex Ferguson and asked the Manchester United legend for advice. The two have kept in touch over the years with Bruce often calling his former manager for coaching advice throughout his career even when the two were Premier League rivals.

This is not the first time a manager has called Ferguson for advice with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and even Scott Parker speaking to the 77-year-old on multiple occasions. The Athletic further reports that Sir Alex told Bruce to “keep his head down and get on with it” and to ignore any criticism from those around him. That clearly worked, with Newcastle United pulling off a shocking 1-0 victory against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

However, with games against Leicester City, Watford, Liverpool, and then Brighton coming around the bend for the Magpies, Bruce has to make sure he keeps their momentum going and continues winning.
