Entering his last year on his contract with Tottenham Hotspur, Christian Eriksen had hoped that a transfer would materialise over the summer. The Danish International was wanted by many European powerhouses like Real Madrid and Barcelona, but ultimately, stayed with the North London side.

One of the main storylines regarding high profile players this transfer window included Eriksen and Tottenham, according to Goal. The Danish playmaker had already admittedly that he wanted to leave the club, as he thought this was a perfect opportunity to test new waters in a different league and club. However, most of the teams that approached the English team were barred in Daniel Levy's demands to free the 27-year-old.

Displeased with the situation, Eriksen - whose contract does expire at the end of the current season - already had his say on the whole situation. The 27-year-old revealed that while he wasn't happy that no move occurred, he is a Tottenham player through and through.

"I don’t think it was wrong [to say that it was time for a new challenge]. But this is football and you never know what happens in football. A lot of things play a part. To me it is not difficult to clear my head. I don't read much of what is written. And now I have been involved for many years, where there have been many rumours every year," he told Goal.

"But it's clear that it's been a little more fierce this year because my contract is about to expire. I know a lot of people are interested in where I want to play. That's the way it is. This is how it is in a top club if you have done well. There will always be rumours. A lot has been written, that I have been to Madrid to look for a house and so on, but it really doesn’t disrupt my life at all," concluded Eriksen.

The only opportunity for Tottenham to cash in with the player is in January when the window re-opens, or else he'll leave as a free player on July 1st.
