Reports | Manchester United considering a January move for Christian Eriksen
Manchester United are considering making a move for Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen in January. The Red Devils tried to sign the Spurs midfielder this summer but failed. However, the club are still determined and see the Danish midfielder as an important part of their plans.
The Sun suggests that Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not been deterred by the club’s failure to sign Christian Eriksen this summer, and will go after him once the window opens again in January. The Norwegian identifies Eriksen as a replacement for Jessie Lingard, who has not scored or assisted in 2019 yet and is not performing well. It is evident that the United squad faces a lack of creative spark in midfield, and the addition of Eriksen can certainly help.
Meanwhile, the Spurs midfielder is unhappy at the club, despite reaching the final of the Champions League last year, the 27-year-old has not agreed to a new contract at the club. He had even gone public and said that he’d like to face new challenges, at the end of last season. That saw him heavily linked with a move, which eventually never materialized and Eriksen recently said that he wished transfers were as easy as the popular game Football Manager.
“I wish I could decide just like in Football Manager, but unfortunately I can't. For me it's not hard to clear my head. I don't read much of what is written. And now I have been involved for many years, where there have been many rumours every year. But it's clear that it's been a little rifer this year because my contract is about to expire. There has been a lot said about me," he said to the Guardian.
"I should have been looking at houses in Madrid [according to the speculation], but I have to be honest and say that all that writing is not something that bothers me. At all." he added.
The Old Trafford representatives have had talks with the Danish playmaker, but backed out when it appeared that he preferred a move to long time admirers Real Madrid. However, that move has fallen through with the transfer window closing on 2nd September, and the Red Devils are now ready to make another swoop for the Danish International.
