Global sportswear brand Adidas played a major role in keeping Manchester United's wantaway star Paul Pogba at the club this summer. Adidas consider the Frenchman to be a major source of revenue for United jerseys and have convinced him to stay at Old Trafford for atleast one more year.

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for the player, but Adidas, who is the main shirt provider for both Real and Manchester United, played a key role in the negotiations, claims The Star. It has been three years since the Germany based sportswear brand entered into a decade long personal endorsement deal with Paul Pogba which costs around £31 million.

Adidas have also signed a £750 million agreement with United that has made them the club’s primary kit provider until the year 2024. The sports mega-brand got involved once talks over a potential transfer were going on between the Red Devils and Real Madrid, as they wanted Pogba to stay in England at least for another year. The Sun reports that a source has said, “They acted as peacemakers between the player, his agent and the club. Adidas was crucial in persuading all the parties to resolve their differences for another season.”

Adidas feel that Pogba’s move to the Los Blancos will make him one among the many stars at the club, such as Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, who are also endorsers of the brand. However, at United, the 26-year-old midfielder is the only star player in the squad, and keeping him at United helps Adidas revenue-wise. As of now, it is clear that Paul Pogba is a Manchester United player, especially with the European transfer window now closed.

However, come next summer, the scenario could be entirely different with Pogba’s brother and agent has publicly stated that the French World Cup winner would like to play for the Galacticos someday. Any move will see Madrid shell out quite a lot of money, since United consider Pogba as the cub’s prized asset.
