Lots of lies were told about my knee, reveals Nabil Fekir over failed Liverpool medical

Real Betis star Nabil Fekir has revealed that his knee is perfectly fine after a move to Liverpool collapsed last summer. The then 26-year-old was on the verge of a 53 million move before everything came crashing down with reports indicating that it was after Fekir failed his medical with the Reds.

Touted to leave Olympique Lyon for an obscene amount of money last summer, nothing went according to plan for Nabil Fekir. He watched as a £53 million move to Liverpool collapsed on the 11 hour before an injury-filled season saw him join Real Betis in a shock £22 million move. However, while the Frenchman has adapted well to Spain and Betis, he still has no idea why the Liverpool move collapsed.

In an interview with L’Equipe, Fekir has opened up about the failed move to Anfield and has revealed that even he’s baffled as to why the move had collapsed. Last summer reports indicated that the Frenchman had failed his medical, but Fekir has insisted that he has had no problems with his knee since he ruptured his ACL during the 2015/16 season.

“Lots of lies were told and they affected me. Especially those told about my family. It hurt them and me. Especially when you know that's what being told is false. What was said is not the truth. My knee is good - I had a quick medical check at Clairefontaine (France's national training base) - my knee wasn't even mentioned,” Fekir told L’Equipe.

“If my knee had been in such a bad state, would Aulas (Lyon chairman Jean-Michel) have made [a huge offer to keep me]? But the worst thing is the idea that people could suggest that it's because of my family that the transfer didn't happen. It's a lie. But you have to live with it. You want the truth? Even I don't know - I promise you! I did my medical and then decided not to sign me.

"At some point they wanted to have me believe it was because of my knee - but an excuse needed to be found. The medical tests that I did at Clairefontaine were very clear - my knee is perfectly fine and I feel fine. There are no issues at all with my knee,” concluded the Frenchman.
