Still a long way to go before the title is decided, claims Ederson

Ederson has revealed that he is unfazed by Liverpool’s five point lead at the top of the Premier League table. The Reds have had an exceptional start to the season, winning every game so far, while Manchester City have struggled to find their footing so far with injuries playing a part.

The Cityzens dominated the Premier League in Pep Guardiola’s second season, becoming the first team to finish with 100 points, but last season was a different situation. Liverpool and Manchester City were the runaway sides last term, with the Reds finishing just one point behind Pep Guardiola and co. Somehow, the Cityzens managed to overcome a seven-point margin to clinch the title, winning the domestic treble as well.

However, with injuries and various other issues playing a big role this season, Manchester City have struggled to cope up. They now have just the one center back left, with John Stones and Aymeric Laporte out for at least a month. The Frenchman will be out for a lot longer, and that has seen Fernandinho switch roles. However, despite that and Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table, goalkeeper Ederson is unfazed.

In an interview with ManchesterCity.com, the Brazilian had a lot to say, even adding that he still remains positive about their title challenge.

“There are many games still to play in the league. It has just started. A lot of things can still happen, just as they did last season. Five points is a good distance to have at the beginning of the season, but we have to chase to close the deficit. Hopefully we can start that against Watford,” Ederson said.

The Cityzens may have lost their last Premier League game, but they walk into the game against Watford with a 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League. Ederson wasn’t really tested by the Ukrainian side but the 26-year-old went on to add that the win would be a welcome boost against Watford.

“Every Premier League game is important. Of course, we can't always guarantee we’ll win. Unfortunately, in the last game we ended up losing, but I think our team is well prepared. We've shown it against Shakhtar and I hope we can continue maintain that momentum against Watford,” concluded the Brazilian.
