Maybe we could have resumed Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 in June, confesses Patrick Kanner

Despite there being calls to end the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga, all four leagues soldiered on and now are on the verge of a restart. However, while that may have caused a few financial issues for clubs within said leagues, they are well set for the start of next season. But the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, amongst other sports in France, opted to end their league season and handed out the league title to PSG. They also confirmed promotion and relegation for both divisions in a decision that has been come under serious criticism from multiple clubs within the French football division.

But, with the Champions League and Europa League still in play, French sides will have to decide on a mode of participation and how to hosts games. Not only that, in an interview Patrick Kanner has admitted that the French football leagues were cancelled too early under government pressure. Kanner, who was the French Sports Minister between 2014-2017, also added that there was no choice given despite sports organizations preparing health protocols.

"It was after [Philippe's] announcement on April 28 before that the leagues and the federations gave in. They were not given any choice. I insist on this: there were health protocols being prepared by all the sports organizations. Maybe we could have resumed the competitions in June," Kanner said reported ESPN.
