According to ESPN, Chelsea are running the risk of losing Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer next summer, as they refuse to meet his demands over a new contract. There has been no significant progress in talks over an extension between both parties since the conclusion of the Euros in the summer.

Chelsea had opened discussions with Antonio Rudiger over a contract extension but remained vary of his demands leading to the rumours of his inevitable departure from Stamford Bridge. The 28-year-old is happy to stay with the English club as long as his contract demands are met with the player believing that this is the last big-money deal of his playing career. The German international has less than a year remaining on his current deal and a breakthrough is not expected to be reached by both parties.

It is understood that the 28-year-old wants to double his £100,000-a-week wage to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge. The London club have so far only indicated that they would be willing to offer around £150,000-a-week and the deadlock in negotiations have alerted several clubs in Europe.

According to ESPN, Rudiger would prefer to stay in West London but the European champions have a history of taking a firm stance with players in similar positions. The English side refused to accept Willian's request for a longer contract which saw the Brazilian depart for rivals Arsenal on a free transfer last year. It is understood that any final decision regarding Rudiger's contract is likely to be influenced by the club's pursuit of Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.

The German defender has made 155 appearances for the Blues while scoring seven goals and providing three assists. Rudiger also helped the club win one FA Cup, one Europa League, one UEFA Super Cup, and a Champions League so far during his stint with the London side.
