Contract negotiations take time but its all in good place, proclaims Jurgen Klopp

Mohamed Salah’s consistency and prolific nature in front of goal, ever since he arrived at Liverpool, has not only stunned fans and critics alike but it has seen the Egyptian become one of the best in the world. His form this season has placed him in fine fettle with the forward netting 16 Premier League goals in just twenty games. Not only that, he leads the assist charts with 11 and has scored a further seven more goals in six Champions League appearances.

However, the 29-year-old’s contract discussions have been the talk of the town as Salah has just eighteen months left on his contract and recently admitted that the negotiations are no longer in his hands. It saw Jurgen Klopp reveal that Liverpool know that Salah want to stay at the club but he admitted that contract negotiations take time even if things are moving along. The German also added that he is positive about the way things are going and the fans are far from nervous.

"Nowadays it's dangerous with these interviews. We know, I know, that Mo wants to stay. We want him to stay. That's where we are. These things take time, I cannot change it. It's all in a good place,” Klopp said, reported ESPN.

"There are so many things in negotiations. It's a third party too, with the agent. It's nothing to worry about, it's a normal process. I am positive about it. The fans are not as nervous as you are. They know the club and know the people dealing with things here. We cannot say anything about it."

There are questions though at offering a 29-year-old a lucrative new contract especially given that Salah will have little to no sell-on value going forward. But Klopp believes that the Egyptian can continue at this same level even in the latter stages of his career, much like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Yes I think so (when asked if Salah can produce the same level in the latter stages of his career). It's his character, determination and that's the way he trains. His work attitude is incredible, he's the first in and last out, doing the right stuff. 

“He knows his body, he knows what to do, he's listening to the experts here and tries to improve all the time. He works so hard for the situation that he's in now and will not waste it by doing less. So yeah, I'm as convinced as you can be," he added
