As the FIFA World Cup continues to dominate attention across the football world, fresh speculation has emerged over the future of veteran Croatian midfielder Luka Modrić. Former Croatia striker Davor Šuker has suggested that the AC Milan star could make a return to Real Madrid after the World Cup, hinting that discussions involving the Spanish giants may already be underway. Speaking to Radio MARCA, Šuker said he believes “something is going to happen” with Real Madrid once Modric's current commitments are completed.
However, he stopped short of providing details and indicated that any decision will likely come after the World Cup. Modric already enjoys legendary status in Madrid following a remarkable spell with the club. During his time there, he played 597 matches and scored 43 goals across all competitions.
His trophy haul includes 6 UEFA Champions League titles, 4 La Liga crowns, and 2 Copa del Rey trophies. Individually, he reached the pinnacle of world football in 2018 by winning the Ballon d'Or, The Best FIFA Men's Player award, and UEFA Men's Player of the Year. For now, Modric remains focused on Croatia's World Cup campaign, with matches against England, Panama, and Ghana awaiting. Any announcement regarding his club future is expected only after the tournament concludes.
