He also praised youngster Athul MS, who scored seven points in just eight raids, for his terrific performance.

After thrashing defending Champions Patna Pirates in the first game of the season, Tamil Thalaivas got off to a disastrous start against UP Yoddha and found themselves trailing 4-18 at the break. However, the team put up a monumental effort and managed to get within four points of the visitors with the scoreboard reading 30-34. But it wasn’t meant to be and eventually, it was the team from UP who secured the points.

In a post match conference, Tamil Thalaivas coach Edacherry Bhaskaran praised his side for the comeback attempt and credited the opponents for the win.

“In the second half, the situation started changing and the game was coming in our hands. If we even got one point when we were trailing by four points, the match could’ve turned. I’ll want to compliment the opposition team, they played very well with a good plan. We tried a lot in the end, but unfortunately, we lost. I don’t see it as a major hurdle though. It is just one match after all. We still have four games and we’ll definitely make a comeback,” the Thalaivas coach said after the match.

While Ajay Thakur that really piled on the pressure at the end, it was Athul who brought the hosts back into the game. The youngster has just one unsuccessful raid in his eight attempts as he kept the Yoddha side on their toes. His efforts did not go unnoticed by Bhaskaran, who credited the youngster for bringing his side back into the match.

“Athul played a good match and the experienced Surjeet Singh played nicely as well. U.P. Yoddha didn’t know much about Athul as he is a youngster. That’s why we used Athul there and he helped us come back in the game,” the coach added.
