After suffering from their third loss in the seventh edition of the Pro Kabaddi League, U Mumba coach Sanjeev Kumar has said their defence hasn’t performed cohesively like a unit which has cost them the match. He also spoke about their young raiders and their failure to perform at crucial moments.

U Mumba lost the match last night against UP Yoddha 23-27 and this is Mumba’s third loss out of the five matches they have played in the seventh season. They started well in the match but by the end of the first half, UP Yoddha had managed to inflict an all-out and take the lead as well. There were mistakes made by their defence as it seemed hurried and out of sync. The most points scored in defence was by Surinder Singh which was four tackle points in eight attempts. Their skipper Fazel Atrachali managed to score only a single point in the entire game.

On being asked in the post-match press conference that if defenders are in too much pressure because of the raiders, U Mumba coach Sanjeev Kumar said “No, I don’t think that’s the case. Our raiders are doing their job, it’s not like they aren’t doing anything. But yes, our entire defence hasn’t performed as cohesively as they should have.”

U Mumba raiders also haven’t had much success. After scoring a Super 10 in the first match, Abhishek Singh failed to score more points hence leaving his team in a lurch. Abhishek Singh and Rohit Baliyan have only managed to score three raid points each in the previous match.

“All our raiders are young. Abhishek Singh is continuing to perform but nobody is managing to support him at the moment. Arjun Deshwal is new and he didn’t manage to support Abhishek today. There were certain instances when our raiders were very close to getting points but couldn’t. If we had gotten those points, perhaps we could have got a better result,” Sanjeev said.

U Mumba has only one home game left which is on the 2nd of August against the two-time finalists Gujarat Fortunegiants and it would definitely be a high-pressure match for them after their recent string of losses.

“I mean you do feel a little bit of pressure after a loss but now we have a one-day gap. We’ll use that day to prepare once again and not take any pressure,” the Mumba coach signed off.
