UP Yoddha’s coach Jasveer Singh has stated that the unsettled defence unit on Wednesday was the major reason behind their crushing defeat against Bengal Warriors in their opening game of PKL 7. Jasveer has also made it clear that the team had rested Rishank Devadiga in yesterday’s game.

After getting off to a good start by taking a 4-0 lead at the very beginning of the game, the UP players lost the track completely and in the end lost the game by a huge margin of 17-48 points. With a player like Nitesh Kumar leading the side, the team had a good defence unit but the performance in their first game was not up to the mark in the defence unit for them.

“What went wrong is that our defence never managed to get set. We started with a few tackles in the beginning but our defence was never settled today, which is why we lost the match,” Jasveer told reporters after the match.

“We made mistakes while raiding and defending. The other team did well in those two departments and we didn’t, so that’s what went wrong.”

With people talking about their raiding unit, UP Yoddha started with seven players which didn’t have their last year’s skipper Rishan Devadiga. Meanwhile, after the match, Jasveer confirmed that Devadiga was rested for the first game and will be available for their next match.

“We rested him for today’s game, but he should be available for our next match,” confirmed Jasveer.
