Ashish Nehra becomes oldest player to take 100 IPL wickets
Ashish Nehra might be getting older by the day but that doesn't mean that he can't break records anymore. The 37-year-old walked his way into the IPL history books by becoming the oldest player to take 100 wickets after he disturbed Sreenath Aravind's stumps in Hyderabad's 35-run win over Bangalore.
Nehra didn’t enjoy the best of days on the field on Wednesday as he was smashed all over the park and conceded 40 runs in his first three overs. But true to his nature, he made a comeback later on, scalping Shane Watson and Aravind off consecutive deliveries while conceding just two runs in his final over.
Nehra is the eighth bowler to reach a century of wickets in the IPL. Lasith Malinga leads the table for most wickets with 143 scalps to his name while Amit Mishra with 124 is second on the list. Dwayne Bravo (122), Piyush Chawla (120), Harbhajan Singh (119), R Vinay Kumar (101) and Ravichandran Ashwin (100) are the other players who have reached this landmark.
Nehra has been a consistent performer in the IPL for a number of years now. He reached the milestone in just 83 matches at an average of 23.4 - only bettered by Malinga (17.80) and Bravo (22.58).
Defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad began the new season at home just as they had ended the previous one, with a win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. The visitors were missing a number of key players including Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.
