Chris Gayle : I don't want to retire just like that from Test cricket

“Yeah, even if it’s a farewell Test match, as I've mentioned in previous interviews, if I can’t manage it, so be it. But I’m still looking forward to playing a Test match. I don’t want to walk away and retire just like that from Test cricket,” said Gayle in a clip on 5 live Sport. 

The 37-year-old has not played Test cricket since September 2014 and he joked that he could make a comeback in the third Test against England which is scheduled to be held next week at Lord's.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan asked Gayle what it would take for a return to the five-day game, to which Gayle replied with poise: "Just for me to say when I’m ready."

As per the policies of West Indies board, only those players who feature in the similar format in domestic cricket can be chosen for international duty. However, a “temporary amnesty” has permitted Gayle to make a comeback to the one-day international squad to confront England after the final Test.

“Yeah, we have an understanding and I think I really, actually deserve that based on what I’ve actually done over the last couple of years,” the batsman said.

When asked whether he will be wearing whites again or not, he said, “Yeah, I might walk out in the third Test match, you never know, just in case!”

He is certainly sure about playing since when asked about whether he will play again, he instantly replied that he will.

“Yeah man, as long as the body allows me, I will play.”
