Need a coach who can win matches, says Sourav Ganguly

India won the second ODI in the five-match ODI series against West Indies today by a convincing margin of 105-runs. However, Anil Kumble's resignation from the post of the Indian coach and the search for a new head coach who can replicate Kumble's dazzling record still remains the focal point of the Indian cricketing fraternity.

The Cricket Advisory Committee(CAC) comprising Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly is burdened with the responsibility of selecting the next head coach for the Indian team. The CAC had backed Kumble's extension at least for the tour of West Indies, but the former leg-spinner opted to resign from the post and the Indian team had to leave for Carribean sans a coach. 

Ganguly was at BCCI head office attending meeting of the state associations in his capacity as the President of the Cricket Association Of Bengal when he was questioned what kind of a coach the CAC is looking for, to which he replied, "One who can win cricket matches."

The next self-implied quality that the incoming coach must possess is that he should be in synchronisation with Virat Kohli.

"The Kumble-Kohli saga has been a matter of concern for the BCCI," said Amitabh Choudhary, the acting Vice President of the Board. The Indian board has extended the search for the new coach by inviting fresh applications till July 9th, apart from the ones already received in order to provide the CAC with more options. The names that are in the run for the post include former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody, two-time Pakistan coach Richard Pybus, current Afghanistan Head Coach Lalchand Rajput, and Ganesh Dodda.

"The CAC will take directives from the BCCI on the next coach," said Ganguly. 

BCCI had earlier confirmed that the Indian team will depart for the tour of Sri Lanka, which will commence on July 21st, with a head coach. India will lock horns with Sri Lanka in 3 Tests, 5 ODIs and two T20Is.
