Hashim Amla is a man on a mission to bust the myth around his game and whether he can cut it in the fast-paced T20 game. Not only did he score a brilliant 59-ball century, the South African produced an improvised shot that even his compatriot AB de Villiers would have been proud of.

The South African batsman had already scored 77 runs off just 50 balls when Basil Thampi charged at him with the ball. Normally a player who hits every ball on its merit, this time, he premeditated a "Dilscoop" that the bowler picked up immediately.

With Amla already having made the movement towards the off stump, Thampi decided to follow the batsman. The 34-year-old, however, adjusted well and just directed the ball, on the full, fine of short third man for a boundary. Thampi's exasperated expression told the tale of its own as he was left to wonder what else he could have done.

Amla went on to score his second century of the IPL with a classy shot over deep extra cover to put Punjab in a commanding position by setting Gujarat Lions a target of 190 to win the game.
