Sunil Narine hammered his way into the record books with an 11-ball 45 that resulted in him reaching his 50 off just 15 deliveries - the joint highest in IPL history alongside Yusuf Pathan. Since it was also the fastest 50 off the current season, Narine took the record off the onlooking Chris Lynn.

Narine, who had watched Chris Lynn race away to 29 off just 14 balls, had scored just five runs off four balls when Samuel Badree was handed the ball in the fourth over. The West Indian decided to have a go at his compatriot and signalled his intent early. Had anyone been sitting in the long off stand, he would have had a great chance to take a catch, not once, not twice, but thrice, as Narine smashed Badree into the same stand on the first three balls of the over.

The pressure was beginning to tell on the bowler as he dragged one down the leg side which Narine flicked for a boundary over short fine leg. The next two balls got him just three runs but the West Indian had retained strike for the next over.

Kohli handed the ball to Sreenath Aravind to stem the flow of runs as KKR had raced away to 59 in just 4 overs. The first ball provided a double before Narine picked his favourite spot, long off, again to get two consecutive boundaries. The pressure was immense as Aravind resorted to giving the 29-year-old a full toss outside off stump that the KKR man dispatched for a third straight boundary over mid-wicket.

Having reached 44 in 14 balls, the crowd held its breath as Narine knew he needed a six to go joint top on the fastest half century list. Aravind, who looked like a welterweight boxer thrown into a heavyweight bout, bowled a wide ball and the next delivery was the same and the crowd were getting restless.

But the only man at the Chinnaswamy who appeared to be unperturbed by the delay was the man waiting for the ball. Like Didier Drogba in the 2012 Champions League final, like Usain Bolt at the Rio 2016, like Yuvraj Singh against England, it was written in the stars and even a guy listening to the audio commentary would have heard the sound off the bat and realised that he had done it. To add another angle to the fairytale, he had done it at the home of his compatriot Chris Gayle who would have been typically associated with such an innings.
