Cricket Australia has announced a 13-man squad for the Ashes that is scheduled to begin in Australia on November 27. The biggest surprise was the inclusion of Tim Paine, following a seven-year absence from Test cricket, and the selection Cameron Bancroft as an opener in the squad.

Paine, who made his Test debut alongside Steve Smith in a match against Pakistan at Lord’s in 2010, was selected for his first Test match in more than seven years. Paine played four Tests in 2010 but a succession of finger injuries derailed his international career. However, CA have decided to trust the wicketkeeper batsman ahead of the the struggling Matthew Wade for the first two Tests.

Another name which has created a buzz is Bancroft who selected for the first two matches of the series. The 24-year-old is set open the batting with David Warner and become Australia’s 451st Test player. He scored 407 runs in his last two matches for Western Australia in Sheffield Shield.

Shaun Marsh started the domestic season on a positive note which has helped him book a place in the team. To strengthen the bowling attack, Australia called up Chadd Sayers to the squad but a debut in the day-night affair on his home turf at the Adelaide Oval is going to be a difficult one.

"Cameron has been a player of interest to us for some time now, having been unlucky to miss out on the Test tour to Bangladesh that was canceled in 2015. He is a very talented and tough cricketer who shows a good temperament for Test cricket. He has thoroughly earned and deserves his call-up following some outstanding performances in the early rounds of the JLT Sheffield Shield competition this season," National Selector Trevor Hohns said on Bancroft inclusion as quoted by Cricket.com.au.

Matthew Renshaw failed secure a place in the squad after a lean start to the Shield season. Glenn Maxwell and Hilton Cartwright were the other players who were overlooked for the No. 6 spot for the first two matches.

Australia Squad : Steve Smith (c), David Warner (vc), Cameron Bancroft, Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine (wk), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood, Jackson Bird, Chadd Sayers.
