Washington Sundar will give the Royal Challengers Bangalore an added edge in the upcoming 2018 edition of the IPL according to spin partner Yuzvendra Chahal. The leg-spinner, who has been at RCB since 2014, added that bowling at the Chinnaswamy gives him a sense of confidence to perform better.

The Indian spinning duo of the Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar managed to forge a strong partnership at last month's Nidahas Trophy which India ultimately won beating Bangladesh in the final. Chahal While it was Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav who stole the show during India's tour of South Africa, Washington Sundar left his own mark on the Indian side in the Nidahas Trophy has he finished as the Man of the series.

Now the two will join forces again in the IPL for the RCB and Chahal is highly confident in his team ahead of the 2018 IPL season and added that the purchase of young talent Washington Sundar will give the RCB franchise some much-needed options in the powerplay overs.

“In Sri Lanka, Washington bowled in the Powerplay overs and I was bowling in the middle overs. In previous IPL seasons, I used to bowl in the Powerplays and was left only with two overs (during later stages). Now we have options. One can bowl in power play and can chip more in middle overs,” Chahal said at media conference.

The wrist-spinner revealed that bowlers are bound to get hit in the shorter format of the game and their ability to bounce back from a bad over, determined their worth as a long-term prospect.

“In this format, you are sure to get hit. For instance, in Nidahas Trophy, I was hit by Sri Lankans for 27 runs in two overs. I just told myself, you need to forget the past and make a strong comeback to pick wickets after being smashed,” Chahal said.

The home ground is a fortress for most teams and Chahal opined that the Chinnaswamy was a ground that oozed confidence for all the RCB players and the fans are another source of confidence for Virat Kohli & Co.

“When you play for India, you get more confidence because of bowling at Chinnaswamy. A spinner is always worried about short boundaries, but having bowled here, I don’t fear bowling anywhere,”

“I have been a successful bowler at the Chinnaswamy for the past four years despite its short boundaries.Compared to last year, the strips at the Chinnaswamy are different. It looks much better. One can expect a couple of 200-plus totals. In fact, I prefer flat wickets, for it gives our batsmen a chance to post big totals,” Chahal said.
