VIDEO | Gautam Gambhir and Shahbaz Nadeem combine to take the worst review in IPL history
When DRS was introduced in the IPL this year, most fans were excited to see who would have the first big blunder in the cash-rich league. Their question has now been answered as Shahbaz Nadeem and Gautam Gambhir had a brain fade moment to take what will forever be remembered as the worst IPL review.
KKR got off to a horrendous start; after a Trent Boult maiden in the first over, the Kiwi pacer dismissed the dangerous Sunil Narine in his next. However, after Robin Uthappa smashed Shahbaz Nadeem for 18 runs, it appeared that the hosts were back on track. But the game was turning out to be a see-saw affair as after Uthappa was dismissed and DD thought that they had wrestled back control, Nitish Rana got into the act and took Nadeem for another 14 runs in the next over itself.
However, before the umpire could call an end to the over, Gambhir and Nadeem decided to produce a moment that would leave them with no place to hide in one of the most historic grounds in the game of cricket. On the last ball of the over, Nadeem bowled a full delivery outside off stump that Rana tried to sweep away. The former MI batsman missed the ball and it went off his pads. Nadeem decided to try his luck by appealing for the wicket when it was evidently clear that the ball had made contact outside the line of off stump. As Gambhir walked over to him, the bowler somehow convinced him to go for the review. As expected, the replays showed that the ball had made contact with the pad at least six inches outside the off stump.
While there is no question about Gambhir’s abilities as a captain, even he will have to admit that his skills as at using the review system still leave a lot to be desired. The Twitterati also took notice of Gambhir’s gaffe and made sure that he did miss the chance to troll him for the same.
Playing under Gautam gambhir makes you realize how good a captain Kohli is :D
