VIDEO | David Miller smashes a humongous six as he punishes Delhi Daredevils for letting him off the hook twice

David Miller has the joint-fastest T20I hundred and the ability he possesses makes him one of the best finishers in limited-overs cricket. However, he has not been as consistent and hence, he’s been in and out of the Kings XI Punjab side in the last couple of years. Kings XI Punjab retained the South African left-hander by using their Right To Match (RTM) card for Rs 3 crore. However, he played the first game and scored a 23 -ball 24 in a chase of 167. But he was then dropped as KXIP went for Aaron Finch and then Chris Gayle. With Gayle having scored 229 runs in 3 innings, it would’ve been difficult for Miller to break into the side but with the big West Indian a bit sore, Miller got a look in for KXIP’s sixth game. 

Put into bat first by DD, KXIP got off to a good start despite losing Finch early. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal were looking really good but IPL debutant Liam Plunkett sent both the Karnataka batsmen back in the hut to peg Punjab back. Miller came into bat with the score 85/4 in the 13th over and Punjab needed him to keep the scorecard moving by rotating the strike for a couple of overs before going after the bowlers at the death. 

He did start with a few singles but when he was batting on 6 in the 15th over, Maxwell dropped a straightforward chance at cover to give the 28-year-old a life. But things became worse for DD when youngster Prithvi Shaw dropped a sitter on the first ball of the next over. 

Miller realized that the cricketing Gods were smiling down on him and made use of those two lives as he struck a gigantic six off Mishra a couple of balls later to make a big statement. Mishra had bowled it full, in the slot and Miller went after it and struck it way over long-on and was a few inches away from clearing the roof of the stadium. However, Miller could not capitalize on the opportunities he was eventually dismissed for 26. Punjab could only manage a score of 143/8 in their allotted 20 overs and appeared to be headed for just their second loss of the season.
