The quality of umpiring has been quite poor in this IPL as the umpires have committed quite a few blunders. In the game between RR and SRH, the third umpire, while checking for a six, checked for the no-ball and also displayed Not Out on the big screen in what seemed like a comedy of errors.

The quality and level of umpiring in the last few seasons of the Indian Premier League has been quite sub-standard. There have been a few shockers and hence, that has led to the introduction of DRS (Decision Review System) in this season.

In today’s game in Jaipur, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and opted to bat first and on the back of skipper Kane Williamson’s excellent 63, the visitors scored 151 in their 20 overs. Jofra Archer (3/26) and Krishnappa Gowtham (2/18) starred with the ball for RR.

In what was tipped to be a tough run chase for Rajasthan against a top quality SRH attack, the hosts were in total control of the chase but SRH made a very good comeback with wickets at regular intervals. The equation came down to 27 off 2 overs and Ajinkya Rahane was still out there for RR. On the second delivery of the 19th over, Mahipal Lomror lofted a length delivery off Siddarth Kaul and it seemed it was over the long-off boundary. But a stunning effort from Manish Pandey kept it down to just two. Pandey timed his jump to perfection and pushed the ball back in play and saved a vital six for the team.

When the same was referred to third umpire S Ravi to confirm if Pandey hadn’t touched the boundary ropes, the TV umpire committed a couple of blunders. After checking if Pandey was fine with the save, he first checked for the no-ball (when it was not required) and then displayed not-out on the big screen to puzzle everybody. It was certainly a comedy of errors and frightening illustration of the level of umpiring in the Indian Premier League.
