IPL 2018 | I don't think we're trying hard enough, says RCB skipper Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has revealed that he does not think that Royal Challengers Bangalore are trying hard enough to win games after last night’s loss to Kolkata Knight Riders. Kohli has also spoken about how he felt his team weren’t good enough on the field in last night’s game on their home ground.
Virat Kohli did a fantastic job over the past year with the Indian national team as he led the young side to some impressive wins against tough opponents over the course of 2017. Kohli has been touted as a fierce and passionate leader by Indian coach Ravi Shastri, but when it comes to his term as the skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, the stats are completely against him.
Kohli has played 89 matches as captain of the RCB team and boasts a win rate of just 47.67% having lost 44 matches. Last night’s loss against Dinesh Karthik & Co. will only add to Kohli’s misery. And understandably, Kohli was left fuming after a below-par performance from his fielders as he admitted that he felt the lads weren’t giving their 100% on the pitch.
"If we look back, we didn't deserve to win. I don't think we're trying hard enough, we need to be hard on ourselves. We don't deserve to win if we field like that. We can't afford to field like that and let singles go to boundaries. We were just not good enough tonight," Kohli said in the post-match interview.
RCB find themselves languishing at the seventh position on the IPL table with seven matches to go, of which four will be away games. Kohli and the boys will need to step up their game if they want to have a shot at a play-off spot. But Kohli added that the team will take each game as it comes.
"I can't pinpoint anything right now, we need to win six out of seven to qualify from here. We need to be in that mindset to take every match as virtual semi-final from now. There's no room for lapses, complacency or hesitation. We need our guys stepping up and hopefully the guys can put up a better show," Kohli added.
