Jasprit Bumrah has stated that the energy Virat Kohli carries is infectious on the team and praised his skipper saying that having Kohli as the leader of the team is always great. At the stumps on day three, in their second innings, Australia are batting at 132/4 with a lead of 175 runs.

On day three of the second Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India was bowled out for a total of 283 runs in their first innings with Virat Kohli being the high scorer for visitors India. Kohli, starting on his overnight score of 82 runs went on to make his 25th Test hundred and also celebrated his century in an animated fashion. On the way to his well made 123, Kohli also became the second fastest batsman in Test cricket to reach 25 centuries. Apart from that he also equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most number of centuries in Australia, the centuries count being six.

"His [Virat Kohli's] energy is always very infectious on the team because he is always looking to push forward and he is always motivating the team. It's always great to have a leader like him," Jasprit Bumrah said at the end of third day's play.

All that aside, Virat Kohli got out to a controversial catch by Peter Handscomb off Pat Cummins’ bowling. Though Bumrah suggested that the Indian team was surprised by on-field umpires’ soft-signal which ultimately lead to Virat Kohli being given out, he said that the Indian team has moved on and will focus on the game that lies ahead.

"We were a little surprised by the on-field call but now that it's been done means it's been done. We will move forward with the game. That's about it," said Bumrah when asked about the controversial decision.

After India’s first innings was cleaned in the second session of the day for 283 runs, Australia in its second innings managed to take their lead to 175 runs by the end of the day’s play. India in return scalped four wickets with Mohammed Shami getting two and remaining two being shared by Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah one apiece.

"Tomorrow the first session will be important. We want to take early wickets, so it will restrict the total to as less as possible and that will help us to chase it in the fourth innings. In my eyes, our team is capable of chasing any total but we will try to minimise as much as possible," he said.

On a personal note, Bumrah felt that it was one of those days for him when despite bowling regularly in good areas he did not get the reward he had expected. On day three Bumrah bowled 13 overs spending runs at less than two runs per over but could manage only one wicket to show for.

"Basically, as a bowling unit we wanted to create pressure from both ends, so I was just trying to do that. Some days you get wickets, some days you don't but we wanted to create from both ends.

"If I don't get the wicket, maybe someone else would. That was the basic plan going into the innings – to create a lot of pressure. So, yeah, that was it," he signed off.
