While India’s history with DRS in limited-overs has been exceptional due to MS Dhoni’s presence of mind, in Tests, it still continues to trouble them. Today, Jasprit Bumrah forced Virat Kohli to go for an LBW review when the ball had hit the middle of the bat, and Gavaskar couldn’t help but chuckle.

The latter half of the first session of the penultimate day of the Test match between India and South Africa saw Mohammed Shami striking thrice, but the bowlers failed to take inspiration from that and failed to break the partnership between Faf du Plessis and Vernon Philander. However, Bumrah was able to create a couple of chances, but that was denied by the umpire.

But the 62nd over provided a chance for the team to sing the redemption song as the first ball of the over seemed to hit du Plessis’ pads and Bumrah appealed for an LBW dismissal. While umpire denied the appeal, the pacer forced Virat Kohli to go for the review as he seemed confident of the dismissal and Kohli obliged and went upstairs for the review.

However, when the replays were displayed on the screen, was enough for the Indian fans’ blood to boil over as the ball had come off straight of the middle of the bat. Sunil Gavaskar, who was in the commentary box at the time of the review, said with a chuckle, "Complete waste of a review.” Kohli also couldn’t help himself but smile at the horrendous review.
