Rajasthan Royals skipper Ajinkya Rahane has been fined Rs. 12 lakh as a result of the visitors maintaining a slow-over rate in last night’s crucial win against MI at the Wankhede. Earlier in the tournament, Virat Kohli was also fined the same amount for a similar offence by the IPL authorities.

Rajasthan Royals win at the Wankhede stadium last night was an important one for the visiting team as it meant that they overtook opponents Mumbai Indians in the league standings to the fifth position with 12 points from 12 games. Former MI batsman Jos Buttler starred for the visitors as he scored his fifth consecutive half-century in a brilliant knock of 95* from 53 balls.

However, RR skipper Ajinkya Rahane was subsequently fined a sum of Rs.12 lakh for a slow-over rate during last night’s encounter.

"As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Rahane was fined INR 12 lakh," an IPL press release said.

Previously, RCB skipper Virat Kohli was also fined a similar amount for the same offence after his side failed to bowl their overs within the given time period against Chennai Super Kings at the Chinnaswamy stadium. Last night’s win put RR in the driving seat for a push for the fourth spot in the league standings as the face competition from the likes of Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians, who still have a fighting chance of making it to the playoffs.
