Kane Williamson, who is the captain of SRH, would not be playing the full season for Yorkshire because of the heavy workload he has had to endure in his campaign of Indian Premier League. Given the extra responsibility he was given by SRH this season, NZ board decided to cut short his county stint.

With the increasing quantity of matches that a player has to play in the current scenario, managing their players’ workload has become the top priority of every board. Addressing the increasing workload of Kane Williamson as the captain of SRH, New Zealand Cricket has decided to cut his county stint short this season.

In the original arrangement, Williamson was supposed to play for English county Yorkshire for the full season because it was expected that he would not get to play as many matches as he did in the current season of IPL. However, due to the unfortunate suspension of SRH captain David Warner in the ball-tampering scandal, SRH management decided to name Williamson as their captain. Being the captain he had to play all the matches for his franchise and taking into consideration the unexpected development, NZ cricket has now communicated to Yorkshire that Williamson would have a reduced role for them.

Yorkshire director, Martin Moxon was disappointed by this decision of NZ cricket and insisted that counties have to suffer from such developments and they have been frustrated because of it. However, he did mention that Williamson would play a huge role for them.

“Obviously the club are disappointed by the reduced amount of cricket Kane will be available for, but he will still play a significant amount for us and we look forward to welcoming a player of his calibre back in due course,” Yorkshire’s director of cricket Martin Moxon was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

“When Kane originally signed for us and New Zealand Cricket accepted the dates, it was thought that he wouldn’t play every game in IPL and that he wouldn’t be captain. But, with David Warner getting banned, he became captain of Sunrisers and has consequently played every game, so New Zealand Cricket want him to have more of a rest. We’re frustrated, obviously, and counties are having to deal with this sort of thing all the time.”

Only yesterday, Virat Kohli was also ruled out of his county stint due to a neck strain that he suffered in the last game of RCB. Kohli was persistent to take part in county championship to prepare himself for the English series. However, no effort was made by the BCCI regarding controlling workload of its ace player.
