VIDEO | Krunal Pandya’s bouncer leaves Dinesh Karthik in a state of shock

Fast bowlers have been using the bouncer as a tool to not just claim wickets but also put the fear of God into batsmen. However, when spinner Krunal Pandya decided to do it in the second T20I against the Windies, it had a completely different effect as it was Dinesh Karthik who caught the fear bug.

Riding on a captain’s century by Rohit Sharma, India found themselves in a very good position at the mid-game interval having put up 195 on the board. To make this simpler, they reduced the Windies to a mere 39/2 by the end of the powerplay. India was coasting to, what ended up being, a comfortable victory when the incident occurred.

Krunal had already bowled two overs before he was handed the ball again in the 13th over. After giving away just four runs, two wides, in his first three balls, the senior Pandya decided to try something different. As he came in for his fourth ball, almost like a medium pacer, he dropped the ball short going for a “bouncer”. Carlos Brathwaite, who was facing the delivery, easily got out of the way.

However, Karthik, who appeared to have seen the ball late, tried to go for it but it was too late. It went through his hands and all the way back for a boundary. While those four runs did not account for much, Karthik, who found himself on the ground at an awkward position, kept staring back at the bowler looking to understand what was going through his head. In the background, Jasprit Bumrah, fielding at short fine leg, can also be seen with his arms stretched out trying to figure out what the newest Pandya in the team was trying to do.
