The national selection committee will meet on April 15 to pick the 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup in England and Wales, starting on May 30. Virat Kohli will remain present in the meeting as well in the selection committee meeting that is supposed to be held in Mumbai.

Earlier last month, Virat Kohli had declared that the performances in the IPL will have little bearing on the World Cup team selection, but after the impressive performances of few players lately, it has become a proposition little confusing. Still, most of the players pick themselves directly, but the fight for the No.4 position is expected to take a lot of time during the meeting.

With the World Cup starting on May 30, the player workload is expected to be a topic of discussion in the meeting as chairman of selectors MSK Prasad has made it clear that they will take action as per the team physio’s report. Kohli, on the other hand, may discuss to giving some rest to the pacers at the backend of the IPL.

So far, New Zealand are the only team to have announced their squad for the World Cup and with the last date for announcing the World Cup squads is April 23, other teams are more or less finalising to declare their teams in that period.

India play their first match of the World Cup against South Africa on June 5, but before that, they are slated to take on New Zealand and Bangladesh in two warm-up games.
