Michael Vaughan, former England captain, in a tweet on Sunday, had stated that Virat Kohli, the captain of the Indian team, should be rested from now until the World Cup. The star batsman, who is also the captain of his IPL franchise RCB, is having a hard time with six back to back defeats.

India captain Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore are having a torrid time in this edition of the Indian Premier League, as they are placed at the bottom of the table with six consecutive defeats. The captain had earlier lost the ODI series against Australia at home by 3-2, after securing a win in the first two matches. This has taken his tally to nine consecutive defeats. Kohli had scored a record 973 runs in the 2016 edition, and going by the batsmen’s standards, he is having a mediocre run in this edition, with 203 runs to his belt in six matches.

However, the cricketer turned commentator Michael Vaughan has tweeted that the if the Indian team management is smart, they should give the number one ranked ODI batsmen a break from the cash-rich league, and allow him to rest before the World Cup, starting May 30 in England and Wales.

“If India are smart they rest @imVkohli now for the World Cup ... Give him some time off before the big event ... #IPL2019,” tweeted Vaughan

Given that now it is highly unlike for the RCB to qualify for the playoffs, their campaign might end with their last match of the league stage, which is scheduled on May 4. The Indian team, on the other hand, will officially kick start their preparations with a warm-up fixture against New Zealand on May 25. They will play their first match of the mega tournament on June 5 against South Africa.
