IPL 2019 | Virat Kohli fined for slow over rate against Kings XI Punjab
Virat Kohli has been handed a fine of Rs. 12 lakh for maintaining slow over-rate during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s match against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on Saturday. Earlier in the ongoing 12th season of the IPL, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rajane were also fined for slow over rate offences.
Bowling first against the Punjab side at the PCA Stadium in Mohali, the RCB bowlers maintained a slow over rate which cost their skipper Kohli as he has been asked to deposit a fine of Rs. 12 lakh for the offence which the team committed for the first time in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.
“Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 match against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on 13th April 2019,” an IPL media release read.
“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh.”
Although RCB registered its first league win of the 12th edition yesterday, the over rate became a cause of concern for their skipper just like it was for India’s ODI and Test vice-captains Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane earlier this year. Rajasthan Royals maintained a slow over rate against Chennai Super Kings while Mumbai Indians did the made the same mistake against Kings XI Punjab.
