Krishnamachari Srikkanth has heaped praise on young batsman Shubman Gill and has said the he saw glimpses of young Virat Kohli from 2011 World Cup in him. The 19-year-old has already three centuries and seven half centuries in nine First Class matches and has been prolific in for KKR in the IPL.

Shubman Gill had announced himself on the world stage with a phenomenal run in the 2018 U-19 World Cup as he ended up as the highest run-scorer for India and second overall. He had amassed 372 runs, with a century and three half centuries in just five innings. He continued his phenomenal run in domestic cricket, scoring three centuries and seven half centuries in nine First Class matches at a staggering average of 77.

In the ongoing Indian Premier League, he was picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders and has played 13 matches for them so far. In this season, he has been used as a floater but has shone as an opener. He scored his second fifty, a 45 ball 76 laced with four maximums and six boundaries, against Mumbai Indians on Sunday. Former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth was left in awe with the 19-year-old’s fabulous knock.

"Very very impressed with Shubman Gill, have a feeling this boy has the talent to become a great cricketer,” he had tweeted on April 28.

He even went on to compare the young batsman with Indian captain Virat Kohli, who had also won an U-19 World Cup before making a debut, but rued that he missed out on a World Cup berth.

“(I had) tweeted earlier saying he missed a spot on the World Cup squad and the reason is I saw a young Virat during 2011 WC! Keep it going @ShubnamGill I agree with your thoughts Bish (Bishan Singh Bedi),” the 59-year-old added.

The former India chief selector had tagged the wrong account of Shubman Gill, but was reiterating towards an earlier tweet about Gill missing out on the flight to England.
