Mitchell Starc, who had last played an IPL match back in 2015 for Royal Challengers Bangalore, has opted out of the Indian Premier League for a second successive year. The upcoming edition will be the 13th season of the tournament and the auction will be held on December 19 in Kolkata.

In the 2018 auction, the left-arm quick was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping INR 9.4 crore but missed out the entire season for an injury. He was back on track with his recovery and was set to represent the franchise this year but due to precautionary measures ahead of the all-important World Cup, he opted out from the 2019 edition as well.

England’s Test captain Joe Root is another notable absentee from the pool of 971 players to be listed for IPL 2020 auction.

Dasher Glenn Maxwell and opener Chris Lynn are amongst the Australians who are part of the pool and have a base price of INR 2 crore. Apart from Maxwell and Lynn, the others to list their base price at Rs 2 crore are Australia fast bowlers Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, Australia allrounder Mitchell Marsh, South Africa quick Dale Steyn, and Sri Lanka batsman Angelo Mathews.

The tournament is about to commence from March 2020 and will go on till the end of April. Out of the 971 players, 713 players are Indian whereas 258 are overseas players. However, they will be contesting for only 73 spots in the auction.
