Twitter reacts to Kesrick “notebook” Williams hilariously trolling himself after claiming Virat Kohli’s prized scalp

One of the biggest talking points from the first T20I resurfaced in Trivandrum as Kesrick Williams once again locked horns with Virat Kohli. But unlike the first T20I, it was the West Indian who came out on top and once he did so, mercilessly trolled himself by ‘stopping’ himself from celebrating.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, let me brief you on the Williams-Kohli ‘notebook’ controversy. Back in 2017, in a T20I in Kingston, Kesrick Williams pulled out his (in)famous ‘notebook’ celebration after dismissing Virat Kohli. Frankly, every single person bar Kohli had completely forgotten about it, but the scar of the celebration was staggeringly still fresh on the mind of the Indian skipper who, after smashing Williams to smithereens in Hyderabad, mocked the West Indian’s celebration, taking a leaf out of Chadwick Walton’s book.

And heading into the 2nd T20I in Thiruvananthapuram today, the Kohli-Williams battle was yet again the most anticipated one and finally, in the 10th over of the game, the action unfolded. It did seem like Williams was still experiencing the aftershocks of the mauling in Hyderabad, as on his very second delivery to the Indian skipper, he overstepped. But much to everyone’s surprise, the action on Sunday followed a completely different script, as today, the West Indian was able to keep the Indian batters quiet.

And on the third ball of the 14th over, the unthinkable happened, as Williams managed to get Kohli out. Yes, you read that right! As Kohli tried to dab a slow and short delivery of Williams over third man, all he could manage was get a leading edge, which, to his dismay, carried straight to Lendl Simmons at third man. As soon as the catch was taken, there was stunned silence at the stadium, but more importantly, all the cameras turned towards Williams to see what he was going to pull off.

Hilariously and anticlimactically, instead of mocking or giving it back to Kohli, the West Indian pacer decided to troll himself, coming up with the “Hush, don’t do anything stupid” sign by placing his finger over his lips. The reaction from Williams also invoked laughter in the commentary box, with Ian Bishop lauding him for not ‘enraging the sleeping tiger’. It is indeed great to see players see the funny side of things and it does look like Kohli taught Williams quite a lesson with his display in the first T20I.

Here is how Twitter reacted to the incident:

Williams didn't celebrate!

WOW

Good job Williams!

Absolutely correct!

Hahahahaha!

That sounds wrong!

Well!
