Kumar Sangakkara was all praise for the Indian captain Virat Kohli on his batting and the passion he has for the game, as he termed him as one of the greatest of all time. Mahela Jayawardene also lionized Kohli for handling the pressure and expectations, comparing him to Sachin Tendulkar.

Kohli had an incredible year in 2018 as he surpassed 10,000 ODI runs and bagged all the top ICC awards for the calendar year. He now has 39 centuries to his name in the 50-over format and is second only to Sachin Tendulkar. Sangakkara commended Kohli for standing out from the rest and he was sure that the Indian captain would be considered as one of the greatest in the history of the game.

"Everything about Virat's game stands out. I think he is head and shoulders above anyone else in world cricket today. He has this incredible knack of scoring runs and has a very, very solid method that he believes in. And I think going forward, he will be one of the greatest ever cricketers, if not the greatest ever," Sangakkara told a news channel, reported ToI.

The former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batsman had also venerated the Delhi based batsman for his ability to read any situations and his passion for the game that is evident through his on-field expressions and attitude.

“If you see the tempo he bats with, it hardly changes. He does read the situation very well. He is a very passionate guy, you see that in his expressions on the field, it's the overall aspect of both the person and how he has sorted his batting and his attitude," he added.

Mahela Jayawardene went as far as to compare him with the batting legend Tendulkar when speaking about Kohli's ability to handle the pressure and expectations on and off the field.

"It's not just about the ability Virat has but to understand the way to handle pressure not just on the field but also off the field, and the expectations. We grew up with Sachin who had to perhaps experience the same thing. And for the next generation, it's probably on Virat's shoulders,“ said Jayawardene.
