India vs New Zealand | We executed our game-plan nicely, says Trent Boult

Trent Boult has stated that the team has a game plan but they failed to execute those plans in earlier matches and added that in the fourth ODI, they executed their plans well which gave them an astounding result. New Zealand managed to bundle the Indian team out for a paltry total of 92 runs.

The fourth ODI of the India - New Zealand five-match ODI series turned out to be a forgettable one for the visitors as they slumped to their seventh lowest total in ODIs. The Indian team put into bat collapsed to 92 all out. Trent Boult was the wrecker-in-chief as he managed to bag five wickets and bowled out his entire quota of 10 overs in one go.

"It was nice to get through them and have a look at the middle order today. Very satisfying, we know we've got the gameplan, we know it works, and it was just about executing it, which I thought we did nicely today," Boult said in his post-match press conference.

When asked about whether it was one of those days when everything seemed right for the bowler, Boult replied in negative and stated that he did not feel so. Boult caught and bowled in two Indian dismissals of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill and said that it is not one expects the opening bowler to pick wickets. Boult also picked the wicket of Kedar Jadhav on a similar inswinging delivery which caught Jadhav plumb in front. The left-arm pacer continued to bowl with the same intent and energy even in his final over and picked Hardik Pandya.

"Some days you do, but today really wasn't one of those days. I thought the wicket was pretty dry and it was actually quite slow, and yeah, couple of overs there, a little bit of swing, [which will] obviously keep you interested, but I suppose the modes of the dismissals there - a couple of caught-and-bowleds, which literally lobbed back to you, probably not how you traditionally see your wickets as an opening bowler.

"Yeah, it wasn't one of those days, to be honest, and it came out nicely and it was just nice to get a little bit of reward."

On being asked about the white ball swinging a lot on some occasions and not swinging at all on other, Boult seemed equally perplexed and expressed his inability to answer the question. The left-hander also commended the other bowlers in the team for a job well done and stated that it was a collective effort which took them to victory.

"I wish I had the answer, but no, I'm not sure. I think it's been a windy summer and wind kills the fast bowler, to be honest. Once it's a bit gusty, it eliminates the swing and the wicket dries out pretty quickly as well, and turns into a pretty good batting wicket, but yeah, the conditions were there today, and not just myself, the guys that backed each other up, they played their roles, and it was done nicely as a collective."

The bowler also felt happy about running through the Indian middle-order and stated that they managed to expose the Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni less middle-order.

"Yeah, it's the first time we've really got down into the middle order [in this series]. Obviously they've lost a classy player there, with their captain, but yeah, it's all about putting pressure on the top order, it's always been that kind of gameplan.”
