Dimuth Karunaratne is surely having the time of his life as after sudden lifeline in ODIs, now the lady luck shone on him in an unexpected way. A Trent Boult thunderbolt hit the stumps but zing bails remained unmoved and even the flashlight didn’t light off to give Karunaratne a sudden lifeline.

Zing bails have been under severe criticism after it failed to dislodge for as many as three times in the Indian Premier League, and now it has started showing its cruelty for the bowlers for the second time in the World Cup. This time, it was Trent Boult who had to suffer the wrath as the bails remained unmoved on the fourth ball of the sixth over.

Boult, born to do magic with the new ball, angled a ball in and Karunaratne was looking to cut the delivery against the angle. It was a terrible shot to play, especially for the angle that he was batting at that moment, and in doing so, he got cramped for room. The power almost became negligible as Karunaratne was hoping the ball would slightly miss the stumps and wouldn’t get him out. In pure pragmatism, that was just a sheer hope and the reality of that happening that was scarce as a watering hole in a Serengeti.

After hitting him on the pad, the ball lipped a fair share of the leg-stump and in the process, it threatened the bails to come off the groove. However, fate had other plans as the ball settled back in its original position, giving life to the batsman.
