ICC World Cup 2019 | Mitchell Starc doing the business again in an ICC tournament, says Aaron Finch
After Mitchell Starc’s deadly bowling against Sri Lanka yesterday, Aaron Finch has stated that the pacer is back to do what he does best and can set the ball rolling this World Cup once again. Finch has added that Australia lost a bit of momentum after they became slow to change their new ball plan.
Mitchell Starc put on a show of fast bowling and ripped through the Sri Lankan middle order to bag a four-wicket haul and deliver a comprehensive 87-run win that propelled Australia to the top of the table. It was a wonderful display of skill set and the ability to move the ball both ways made Starc the most unplayable bowler in the game. It was quite reminiscent of his performances in the 2015 World Cup and if he can hold on to the same form, Australia will be in good stead. Finch is understandably very happy by the pacer’s performance and applauded him for the same.
“We have been improving each game. The way we dragged it in the middle overs was impressive. Starc-ey - As soon as he gets a sniff of a new batter, he's all over 'em. He is a world-class bowler and he is doing the business again in an ICC tournament,” Finch said in the post-match presentation.
Sri Lanka batted really well and was all set to secure their first win against Australia in the World Cup since 1996. Kusal Perera decided to counter Australia's speed with his own brute force and coupled that with Dimuth Karunaratne 97, Australia seemed out of ideas. Finch conceded that the team could have done a lot better with the new ball.
“I thought we were a touch short with the new ball. You want to bowl top of off, but when we were getting hit we had to change our plan and we were a bit slow to do that and lost a bit of momentum. It was nice to see Maxwell bowl well. He had a big boundary to play with, here. We found it tough to get ten overs out of him at Taunton with small boundaries,” Finch added.
