IPL 2019 | Shikhar Dhawan can win games for us this season, says Amit Mishra
Veteran spinner Amit Mishra reckons that newly acquired asset, Shikhar Dhawan, has the ability to win matches single-handedly for the Delhi Capitals ahead of an interesting 2019 IPL season. This year, Delhi will begin their campaign against Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians on March 24 in Mumbai.
The new-look Delhi Capitals squad certainly have some big names in their roster but whether those star players live up to their reputation is something that only time will tell as the 2019 season of the Indian Premier League progresses. However, veteran Delhi spinner, Amit Mishra, believes that there’s one man who is capable of turning the tide around for his team and that is former Sunrisers Hyderabad opener - Shikhar Dhawan.
Delhi brought in Dhawan from SRH as they opted to let the trio of Vijay Shankar, Shahbaz Nadeem, and Abhishek Sharma. The left-handed India opener is certainly regarded highly amongst the Delhi faithful and Mishra is confident that Dhawan will live up to the high expectations that he has built for himself over the years.
“Looking forward for him (Dhawan) joining the team. He is a local lad and has been doing really well for Team India.
“I hope he brings similar sort of performances for DC and wins games for us this season. We are getting a good opener in him and a right hand-left hand combination at the top will surely help in balancing the side,” Mishra told HindustanTimes in an exclusive conversation.
Dhawan has a total of 4058 IPL runs to his name but what separates him from the rest of the batsmen in the league is his particular style at the start of an innings and according to Mishra, he could be the spark that could change the fortunes of Delhi this year. Delhi finished at the bottom of the table in the last edition of the IPL with just 10 points but Mishra is confident of the team’s chances this year. The former India spinner is highly optimistic that the new-look Delhi side can lay their hands on the IPL Trophy for the first time this year.
“We are very excited for the new season. The team is new, the name is new and there is a lot of positive vibe around. There are a lot of new faces and the team is looking very balanced. Everybody is very excited to do well this season.
“For sure. I think our team looks really balanced and everyone is eager to do better this term. But I don’t want us to get ahead of ourselves and we must take one match at a time,” Mishra, who picked 12 wickets in 10 matches last season added.
