In a move that no one saw coming, Delhi Capitals side have appointed former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Sourav Ganguly as their advisor to work closely with Ricky Ponting. The newly renamed side has never won the title before as they look at a new beginning under young Shreyas Iyer.

The latest name to come on board of Delhi Capitals has been former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly. The CAB president on Thursday revealed, “I am very pleased to come on board with the Delhi Capitals,” reported PTI.

“Having known the Jindals and the JSW Group for years, I am now excited to be a part of their latest sports venture. I am really looking forward to working with the players and the support staff,” Ganguly added.

Ganguly has played 59 matches in the IPL scoring 1349 runs with a strike rate of 106, and has seven fifties to his name.

“Sourav is one of the most astute minds in world cricket. A lot of what we see in Indian cricket today was born because of Sourav. His aggression, positivity and never say die attitude are traits we want the Delhi Capitals team to imbibe,” said Delhi Capitals chairman Parth Jindal.

“It is truly an honour that Sourav has chosen Delhi as his IPL team. I have no doubt that our team will benefit immensely from his experience, guidance, and advice. Sourav has been like family to me and I am deeply humbled to have him as an advisor.”

Finally finding a stable captain in Shreyas Iyer after Gautam Gambhir had to step down mid-season, the Delhi-based franchise would commence their season against Mumbai Indians on March 24 at the Wankhede Stadium.
