IPL 2019 | Our decision making hasn’t been good in big games, says Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, who has led the Royal Challengers Bangalore since 2013, has revealed that poor decision making in big games is one of the main reasons why the franchise has not won a single IPL title. RCB open their campaign against defending champions Chennai Super Kings on March 23 in Chennai.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore squad has always boasted some big names in their squad ever since the start of the IPL competition back in 2008. However, despite making the final against Adam Gilchrist-led Deccan Chargers as early as the second edition of the competition which was played in South Africa, the Bangalore-based franchise has failed to lay their hands on any silverware.

Ahead of the 12th edition of the IPL, RCB skipper and India captain, Virat Kohli, gave some insight as to why his team has lacked that final spark which has prevented them from attaining their main objective over the years.

“If you take wrong decisions, then you will lose. Our decision making was not good in big games. When the team’s decision making is balanced, those teams have won in the IPL,” Kohli said at the launch of the RCB app.

The 30-year old batsman stressed on the importance of creating a culture in his camp this year. A culture that will not just be a part of the set-up this year, but one that they are striving to make the essence of the franchise, that would continue to thrive even in the absence of Kohli.

"What we've spoken about this year is to lay down a culture, which is the most important thing for any team. One thing that remains an essence for any team is striving for excellence and being committed to what you want to achieve. That takes commitment on a daily basis, and that is something I'm looking forward to this season. We will require absolute professionalism from all our players. We'll give responsibility to the players to handle themselves on the field, off the field, and take good decisions, be responsible about their life and the sport as well.

"We all are here taking care of that culture for now. We're not going to be here after a few years, none of us can be here forever. But RCB will remain for a long, long time and the next lot of players that come in should feel that culture, embrace it and be proud of being part of this franchise. To me it has been a most special experience. I don't see myself leaving or playing for any other franchise. That's purely because of that connect. We're going to play this season for that connect," Kohli added.
