IPL 2019 | Good to have Steven Smith back, reveals Ajinkya Rahane
Rajasthan Royals’ skipper, Ajinkya Rahane, revealed that it was great to have Australia’s Steven Smith back in the squad after the latter recently ended his one-year ban. Rahane also spoke about having no qualms batting at the number four spot for his side in the upcoming IPL season.
Ajinkya Rahane did a commendable job to guide Rajasthan Royals in the previous season of the Indian Premier League after the former captain, Steven Smith, was handed a one-year sanction from Cricket Australia for his role in the ball-tampering saga in South Africa. Rahane will continue to lead the Rajasthan-based franchise in this season despite Smith’s return to international competitions.
The Mumbai-born batsman heaped praise on his Australian teammate as he added that Smith has the ability to win matches single-handedly for the Royals in the upcoming 2019 season.
"It's good to have him (Smith) back as a Rajasthan Royals player. He is a quality player and it's always good to have him in your team. Also to pick his mind will be very important. We all know his ability to win matches," Rahane said as per PTI sources.
Rahane, who also serves as vice-captain in the Indian Test team, further revealed that he has no issues about not getting enough chances in the limited overs format with the national team. The RR captain doesn't want to put too much pressure thinking about the number four slot which is up for grabs in the Indian ODI team.
"I have never had complaints about my batting order and have performed anywhere I have batted. I don't want to put any pressure on myself by thinking about the No 4 spot in the Indian team. I understand that batting order depends on lot of things. For India, I am ready to bat at any position," Rahane added.
