At his prime, Yuvraj Singh was one of the most feared batsmen in the shortest format but has failed to live up to that expectations in recent years. However, the all-rounder turned back the clock with a sublime knock of 53 runs off 35 balls even though the hosts fell to a disheartening loss.

Mumbai Indians succumbed to a 37-run loss to Delhi Capitals in their opening fixture of this year’s Indian Premier League at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Capitals’ players recovered well courtesy Shikhar Dhawan (43) and Rishabh Pant who scored a 27 ball 78 to power the visitors to a deserved win away from home.

Yuvraj Singh put in a strong performance for the Mumbai-based franchise as he scored a brilliant 53 off 35 deliveries. Despite the strong performance from the former World Cup-winner, the home team fell to a narrow defeat at hands of Shreyas Iyer & Co. with Kagiso Rabad and Trent Boult impressing with the new ball.

However, one of the big positives from last night was the revival of Yuvraj as a strong middle-order batsman. The home crowd just could not get enough of the towering Punjabi’s big shots. The fans went "Yuvi-Yuvi" at the top of their lungs to celebrate Yuvraj's return to the venue, where India secured their second World Cup thanks to a Yuvraj Singh heroics in that tournament. After the incident, the Mumbai Indian’ official cricket account uploaded a video of the fans chanting Singh’s name which was a testament to the bond he formed with them on Sunday night.
