IPL 2020 | Mayank Agarwal’s mistake cost Kings XI Punjab the game, feels Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag has blamed Mayank Agarwal for his careless stroke on the penultimate ball of the innings, which ended Kings XI Punjab’s hopes of winning the game. The former KXIP mentor has also added that only CSK have the ability to pull off the game from precarious situations.

Mayank Agarwal played one of the bravest IPL innings of recent time, guiding the side from 55/5 in 10 overs to almost to the clutch of victory, but his outrageous attempt to hit a boundary off a full-toss where a normal single would have sealed the deal, cost the side a victory. That somehow masked the brilliance he showed on the field and his idol and the former Kings XI Punjab mentor Virender Sehwag didn’t take that lightly.

“Mayank Agarwal brought them so close, they were so close to win the game. But he lost all the credit and gave an easy win for Delhi Capitals. He could have easily hit two runs in two balls and Super Over shouldn’t have happened,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz Live.

“For me, it was Mayank Agarwal’s mistake because he should have finished it by himself, at least when you are already set in the middle. When you have taken your team so close to winning, it was only a matter of a single. Hitting a four or six doesn’t add any extra kick.”

After being reduced to 55/5 in 10 overs, no one would have thought of Punjab racing towards victory. Agarwal was the master tactician of the phase, pulling the game out of nowhere and that propelled Sehwag to compare the team to CSK who have a habit of doing such stuff on a regular basis.

“It was great fun watching this match. Punjab almost lost the game before death overs arrived. Only a team like CSK could go on to win from that situation. No one would have thought Punjab would bring them so close. But a small mistake by Mayank Agarwal cost them the match.”
