India under the captaincy of MS Dhoni went on to lift the 2011 World Cup on April 2, 2011, at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. The whole country celebrated India's victory as MS Dhoni's med defeated Sri Lanka on the night of the final to lift the trophy after 28 years. Former India skipper Virat Kohli recalled memories from that night and talked about the advice that he got from batting great Sachin Tendulkar when he walked out to bat.

Virat Kohli as quoted by Hindustan times revealed the advice given to him by Sachin Tendulkar.

“I remember the pressure of walking in to bat at two down for 20-something (2/31). Sachin and Sehwag, both were out. Sachin paaji had a brief chat with me when I walked in. He said, ‘build a partnership’. And we did build a partnership, me and Gautam Gambhir”.

Virat Kohli also talked about the importance of his innings and said that the thrill of winning the World Cup was unbelievable

“I got 35 and it was probably the most important 35 in my cricket career. I felt very happy that I was a part of putting the team back on track and contributing in the way that I could. Just the thrill of winning the World Cup was something unbelievable. The atmosphere of the crowd singing 'Vande Mataram' and 'Jo Jeeta Vahi Sikandar' songs was surreal. It is something that is so fresh in our memories even now," he stated.
