The introduction of short-format cricket has modernized the game of cricket with a range of fancy strokes. However, like every other innovation has its disadvantages, David Warner fell prey to one of his trademark scoring strokes when his flamboyant act led to his downfall against LSG.

Despite a favourable toss, Lucknow Super Giants suffered early jitters, losing Quinton de Kock and Devdutt Padikkal inside the powerplay. With the wickets tumbling throughout the first half of the first innings, Ayush Badoni and Arshad Khan came to the rescue and propelled them to 167/7 in 20 overs. In reply, the visitors lost an early wicket as an injured Warner ended up in scrutiny due to an attempt of fancy strokeplay.

After struggling through a knuckle injury on the second delivery of the fourth over, Yash Thakur bowled a length delivery outside the off stump that the Aussie veteran tried to shuffle across the line and ramp over short fine leg. However, fortune had a different plan for Warner as the southpaw failed to connect the stroke with the bat and incurred a thud at the thigh pad. It did not just end here as the Kookaburra deflected off his body to roll onto the leg stump, thereby ending up as a dismissal. Seeing the opener fall prey to one of his scoring shots in an unusual fashion, the Twitterverse sounded saddened for Warner.

Not his day

Unfornutunate

Not great for him

Bad shot selection

Street smart

Thats sad
