Sunrisers Hyderabad stockpiled their third 250-plus score on the board in IPL 2024 and ended up with a 67-run victory against Delhi Capitals. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma’s blitzkrieg paved the way for an SRH-dominating performance backed by T Natarajan’s four-for in Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.

Brief Scores: SRH: 266/7 [Head: 89, Shahbaz: 59; Kuldeep: 4-0-55-4] beat DC: 199 [Fraser-McGurk: 65, Pant: 44; Natarajan: 4-1-19-4]

Although Pat Cummins desired to bowl first, the opening pair, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma did not disappoint the skipper by dominating the Delhi Capitals bowlers at the start of the innings. They assaulted them for 19 and 21 runs in the first couple of overs, transcending to a score of 83 runs in four overs. With five out of the first six overs going over 20 runs, SRH breached KKR’s 105 runs by gathering 125 for the highest runs in the powerplay. Right after, a brilliant Axar Patel catch offered Kuldeep Yadav to fragment the 131-run stand. Aiden Markram followed suit in the same over and Head’s 32-ball 89 blitzkrieg ended in the next two overs with the score reading 154/3 in nine overs. Although Axar Patel bowled Heinrich Klaasen in the immediate next ball, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shahbaz Ahmed glued 67 runs for the fifth wicket before Kuldeep earned his four-for by dismissing the all-rounder with the score 221/5 in 17 overs. DC’s hard-fought efforts seemed wasted when Shahbaz’s fifty and Abdul Samad’s quickfire helped SRH post 266 in 20 overs.

In response, the Capitals got a brisk start with Prithvi Shaw hitting back-to-back fours before Washington Sundar had the last laugh to draw the first blood. David Warner was a goner in the next over, paving the way for a Jake Fraser-McGurk classic where he piled up 30 runs against Sundar in the third over. With Abishek Porel playing second fiddle to the Aussie youngster, the third wicket stand rose to 84 with Fraser-McGurk racing to a 15-ball fifty. Mayank Markande ended up getting two scalps removing both during the middle overs. With the score reading 136/4 in nine overs, DC was well in the hunt before Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs failed to get along. Just 30 runs came in the next six overs for the loss of two wickets and Pant failed short of assistance from the other end. Natarajan ended up producing a three-wicket 19th over and paved the way for a 67-run victory.
