Cricket is often referred to as a tactical game and the captain’s decision plays a pivotal role in dictating the outcome of a match. Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis made a wise move to bring on a potential match-up against two left-handers, leading to Travis Head’s rare downfall.

Winning the toss, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis opted to bat first. They slammed 61 runs inside the powerplay eventually leading to a 206-run total on the back of fifties from Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar. In response, Faf opted for a tactical match-up against the in-form opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, leading to the latter’s downfall in the first over itself.

The way Head and Abhishek went about business in the tournament so far, it was weird to see just three runs come off the first five deliveries in the match. Henceforth, Head looked to break free on the last ball of the first over only to get a top edge off a full-length delivery that gripped around the fourth stump line. As the Aussie tried to slog against the turn, the ball ricocheted off the bat’s edge towards backward point with Karn Sharma back peddling and completing the catch.

Realising Head’s first single-digit score in IPL 2024, here's how the Twitterverse reacted.
